Provence-Alpes-Cote D'Azur [ Part Two ]

Day Eight

An early start to get a TGV to Avignon Airport - a quick sketch on the steps of Gare Saint-Charles dramatically overlooking the Marseille and a study of a restored Air France Caravelle (F-BOHA) jet on display at the airport before flying back to Southampton.

Day Seven After a scenic boat trip to the 'Calanques' to the south (the sea was hilariously choppy and I got completely drenched sitting on the back of the boat!), l then dried off with lunch by the old port and drew some of the amazing elevations in front of me. Then a chilled afternoon exploring the north of the city and the stunning Palais Longchamp (2 museums and what must be the grandest change of level between an elevated park and street level!).

Day Six Walked miles today around the southern part of this amazing city - first climbed up to Notre Dame on the hill above the city, then to Vallon des Auffes and then an over an hour later to Le Corbusier's Unite D'Habitation - still looking amazing almost 70 years later - proof that in the right climate and with inspirational design, concrete apartment blocks can be wonderful. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unité_d'habitation
